The PGA Tour's ``official" sponsors range from Buick, ``the official car," to Karastan, ``the official carpet." But if John Hughes had his way, the PGA Tour also would have an ``official magician,"
and he'd be it. Hughes, professionally known as The Amazing Hondo!, has been performing his sleight-of-hand tricks at select PGA Tour stops for six years. He's the ``Official Tournament Magician" of the Western Open,
but PGA Tour directors won't grant Hughes ``official" status because he's technically not a sponsor. During tournament weeks, Hondo performs his sleight-of-hand at sponsor's parties, in the clubhouse for players and
their families, even on the course for golf fans. ``A golf tournament is a good gig," says Hondo. ``Magic is an art form that appeals to a discerning audience, one that can appreciate a good golf swing." |
